Celebrate and Inspire more Women to the Sport of Sailing

To celebrate and inspire more women to get involved in the sport of Sailing, Antigua Sailing Week is delighted to announce that the 3rd ASW Women’s Race Day will be sponsored by the Antigua Yacht Club Marina and Resort. As strong supporters of ASW for many years, the sponsorship will also include expanding the Race Village to encompass the new AYCM Marinaside Platform with entertainment taking place nightly throughout the event.

In anticipation of Women’s Race Day, ASW is collaborating with Second Star Sailing Caribbean and the National Sailing Academy to welcome Farr 65 Falken and 59° North to Antigua and host an event with the AYCM’s support to encourage more girls and women to get involved in sailing.

Owned by 59° North, Falken has made her way from Norway, across the Atlantic, and is now sailing through the Caribbean and back across to Europe. Crew member and fellow islander joining the boat in Antigua, Nathalie Zenny heralds from Jamaica and is on a personal mission to encourage more women in the Caribbean to get involved in sailing. “I’ve been involved in marine conservation in the region for many years and have always been interested by extension in sailing. 59° North has a growing apprenticeship program and wants to see more females involved in the industry. We wanted to connect with local organizations doing similar work in Antigua and share experiences”.

On Saturday 23rd March at 2pm, all girls and women are invited to join them for a casual tour of the Falken which will be docked at ASW Women’s Race Day sponsors Antigua Yacht Club Marina. Located alongside the Marinaside Dock, there will be brief remarks from each organization along with the boat tour. The organisations will be on hand to talk about the industry and guide interested people into options of how to get involved in the sport as well as discuss further opportunities for training and scholarships.
