New Races on the Antigua Racing Calendar

by Alison Sly-Adams

As a many international race boats begin their migration  to the Caribbean for the upcoming winter season, Antigua is delighted to announce two new one day events have been added to the already impressive race calendar for 2016.

Taking place in February, the Round Redonda Race will complete the Jolly Harbour Valentine’s Regatta on the 16th February followed by the new Antigua 360, a Round the Island Race run by the Antigua Superyacht Challenge team and designed to offer RORC Caribbean 600 boats the opportunity to challenge the records as well as have a day of race training prior to the RORC Caribbean 600 which starts on the 20th February.

Of the new races Stan Pearson of the Superyacht Challenge says, “Most boats use that day as a practice day prior to racing in the RORC Caribbean 600 and many of the boats have expressed an interest in formalising the event. The Antigua 360 coupled with the Round Redonda Race four days earlier will be a great test of team work and conditions prior to the 600 mile adrenalin rush”.

To get a full run down of the seasons calendar for the next two years along with other marine and cultural events throughout the year visit the official website of the Antigua and Barbuda Marine Association (www.abma.ag) where marine related event and news updates will be posted throughout the season from member organisations. Thanks to sponsors Falmouth Harbour Marina and the National Parks Authority, printed versions of the calendar have been available at Monaco Boat Show for visitors to the Antigua Yacht Show stand and will be available at the upcoming Annapolis Boat Show in October.
