Saturday saw the first ever Hansa Antigua International Championship take place at the National Sailing Academy in English Harbour, Antigua.
Twenty boats and forty sailors in three divisions battled it out in the morning racing for the Interschool Challenge Trophy, the Sailability Antigua Trophy and the Open Hansa Antigua International Trophy followed by a last single Top Gun Race in the afternoon.
The full results are below but Bob Bailey of Sailability said of the event, ‘The real winner is Antigua for hosting the first inclusive regatta in the region. We had mixed boats of sailors with some youths and adults from the sailability programme on board. The event was a fantastic success and we look forward to an even bigger event in 2020.’
Bailey went on to thank Clare Cupples and the Antigua Yacht Club team for managing the racing, the National Sailing Academy for operating support boats and the team from Hansa for their immense hard work in supporting the last two weeks of sailing at the National Sailing Academy by bringing in 20 Hansa 303’s specifically to assist in the hosting of the Para-Sailing Development Programme.
